Paper 1 Improvements

Our Blue Sky from Tuesday:

Natasha:  Excellent introductory paragraph.  From p3: “The purpose of the article is to bring back the feeling of nostalgia as it tries to ask of the reader to recapture the event.  In this way, the article asks for sympathy and pity from the audience, whereas the image asks for viewers to mourn over the nation’s loss.”

Danny:  “The lifeless, used shoes also remind us that there is no life in there…”

Peter:  “The fallen rose is wrapped showing no thorns whatsoever and shoes us that the passion is forgotten.”

Stephanie: “The positioning of the shoe, where one is flat on the ground and one is upheld highlights how they are neglected by their owner and symbolized the loss of the hundreds of  people…”

Neel:  “While the world watched one of the most iconic sporting events, the people in Boston were running in fear.”

  1. “The way the author tries to communicate his message, however, is a bit ironic to the content because the message indicates how “sharing” things online disconnects people from real life.”
They pointed out a great example of irony used in Text A.

“By conveying his message in the form of an illustration, it allows for his message to be digested much faster and easier.”
The group understood really well about the advantage and purpose of having an illustration as a text type.

  2. I like Team salt & peppers opening sentence, it is a funny and sarcastic opening hook. Made me want to read more

  3. “…people are clearly misusing the social network.” Team Steph
Found this idea extremely interesting, its the thought that people put these social networks online to be used in an innocent way of finding friends and keeping in touch. However as it started to trend and more people got online, creating their Facebook Accounts, people evolved the use of Facebook making it a medium to show off or stalk people.

  4. Team Salt and Pepper: Social networks such as Facebook have been and will always play a major role in how people these days communicate by sharing and giving out all sorts of information, however it has been intensely misused.

I like how the team used ‘intensely misused’ because it shows more than one aspect of how we can interpret what issue text A and B is trying to tackle. The general statement can be narrowed down later, which makes it less confusing for the readers.

  5. “Joel Pett chose to convey his message through a cartoon as his intended audience are mainly teenagers since as mentioned earlier, they are the ones who spend most time on the internet and social network.”

My team hasn’t discussed about this in our Paper 1.

  6. The Care Bears –> The society we have today pushes us to become someone perfect, insecurities push us to create an image people want others to view you therefore creating a facade easily through social networks.

Team Salt & Pepper –> Social networks such as Facebook have been and will always play a major role in how people these days communicate by sharing and giving out all sorts of information, however it has been intensely misused.
