  1. Adverts which ask questions or interact with consumers gets consumers to stop and wonder.

  2. How does media shape culture?
    Advertisements have great power to convince people by the act of repetition. Once in the past, there was time when MTV was not recognizable by a lot of people. It was not a famous channel at all. However after having a rock star saying, “I want MTV” all over the advertisements on TV to attempt the audience who love Rock. And the result was thousands of people calling the broadcasting company and asking for MTV channel.

    Changing the culture by showing images or videos that makes viewers think of how they view life, things such as political statements and powerful messages that pull your heart string. It sends a message and makes you think in a different way. It has the power to persuade and make you like or dislike a certain thing. For example when McJagger did the MTV ad, hundreds of people subscribed to that channel after the ad.

    *How is creativity valued in the world of advertising?
    Life after the war was very boring and fun advertisements entertained, sold, and “made life perky.” Creativity is extremely valued, it captures the audiences attention. Its something crazy, hard to comprehend, stops people in their track, and search for the real message. It makes us curious.

    *Which ads catch your eye? What do they do to grab your attention?
    Ads that catch my eye are usually extremely simple but deep. Just go with it by Nike is one that I love and I actually follow. As a sports brand, athletes perform their best when they don’t think and they react to a situation.

    *What thinking skills are important for advertisers?
    People that have a very creative mind with a strong business sense are the people that are successful as advertisers. You need to think original and have something new that blows the minds of the audience. You also need to be very open minded. As stated in the movie, there is a sense of duality where you can feel safe and secure yet you need to go out of your own way and takes risks! Rebel to the standards and attack it. Persistence is extremely important as these people are often brought down and producers believe there is too much risk sometimes in certain “creative” advertisements.

    *Why do we need to deconstruct the way advertising functions in our society?
    Today, we are constantly bombarded by advertisements. At home, online on facebook, even while on the way to school. In 2010, an average New Yorker would experience 5,000 adverts in a day. Possibility of manipulation is very high. A lot of money is spent on advertisements so there must be a purpose under the subliminal messages. WE need to be able to think in a way that we can choose which adverts are worth trusting and buying into. This is modern propaganda in a way.

    Pushes cultural boundaries through humour and puts out a statement
    It’s always around people, so it’s impossible to ignore what’s always around you

    Moves people by emotions and “pulls the gas” to make the audience think

    *Which ads catch your eye? What do they do to grab your attention?
    A little bit humorous and emotionally grabs the audience

    *What thinking skills are important for advertisers?
    Needs to make the client doubt because it’s ridiculous, but it should have the ability to work and stun the audience

    *Why do we need to deconstruct the way advertising functions in our society?
    Advertising is all around us; we need to be able to think and evaluate it for it’s importance and truth
